What is mujadara?
Mujadara (also spelled mujaddara or mejadra) is a Levantine dish of lentils and rice topped with caramelized onions. It is a pantry meal: a short ingredient list, one pot, and enough plant protein for a real dinner.
What it is made of
- Brown lentils
- Long-grain rice
- Caramelized onions and spices (cumin, coriander, cinnamon, pepper, salt)
Why families cook it
One pot, about 30 minutes, and leftovers that reheat well. Bayt Mujadara packs the same dish as a shelf-stable kit: 460 g, 4 servings, $5.99 CAD ($1.50 / serving), 22 g protein and 12 g fibre per 115 g dry serving.
